Lochruna

An elfin sport combination of camp games Capture the Flag and Hostage played on various biome pitches in coliseum grounds.

Below are Mōlehu Academy’s house teams, colors, and symbols. As a school (which is how they’re represented in the professional draft), their symbol is a yellow crescent moon in a deep purple circle with 5 yellow stars (a star for each of the 5 houses).

Some inspiration examples. I don’t know if it would look weird to add an M on there or not.

Coliseum and biomes / pitches.

This is a wip example of an illustration I’m in the process of getting.

The pitch (center and lowest level) features a large biome that changes before each game. When the pitch is not in use, the coliseum is closed and it becomes a smooth layer of stone level with the seating area. When it is in use, the stones shift to reveal the playing field. There is a clear magical barrier on top to keep the biome contained and to keep interference out.

The goal of the game is for (2) turnkeys to trap players of the opposing teams, for (5) trackers to hunt the relic, for (1) sentry to guard the jails, and for (1) defuser to set their team’s hostages free.

There are creatures who live in the biomes that can attack and some players can get injured or even die during the games.

The ‘pitch’ / biome changes for each game. Sometimes it shows a tundra, sometimes it shows castle ruins (like what’s pictured here), sometimes it shows a forest, and so on. The coliseum is basically sentient and will choose at random at the start of each game. Players do not know what biome they will be playing on until the archways open up. Once the archways open up and the players are let onto the field, the barriers basically get removed from their vision. So it’s almost like they get transported somewhere else during the game (otherwise nothing stops them from kinda hugging the barriers during the game) and only become visible again when the game is over.

At the beginning of each game, there is a wall across the center of the biome (if its castle ruins, then the wall is made of stone and will crumble at the start of the game, if its a tundra biome, it’s a wall of ice that will melt, if its a forest, its vines tangled among trees that will drop, etc).

The ‘relic’ looks like an oil lamp. It is hidden somewhere by each team but cannot be buried. If the game goes on for too long, it starts to grow ‘crown of thorns’ flowers in various colors (usually colors of the team) to become more noticeable.

I’ll probably have her change the color of the flowers to a purple color. I had her do this cover before I started writing haha.

This picture is from my original cover!

For the Illustrated Cover

I was thinking of doing a tundra biome instead of the forest I originally mentioned if that’s okay! Now that I’ve written half of it, the tundra biome is what basically starts the story in the first place. So I feel like that would be significant.

I’ve included some ideas for ice pillar / wall and landscape ideas.
